Frequently asked questions
- What is PEPPOL?
- PEPPOL is a set of specifications and a decentralised network for exchanging electronic documents through accredited Access Points. It is governed by OpenPeppol and used across Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East.
- Which countries use PEPPOL?
- PEPPOL is used by most EU member states for B2G, plus Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and several others. The table above lists every country tracked on e-Invoice.app that operates a decentralised model or names PEPPOL as a recognised standard.
- What is a PEPPOL Access Point?
- A PEPPOL Access Point is an accredited service provider that connects a business to the PEPPOL network. Buyers and sellers each appoint their own Access Point. Invoices are routed provider to provider in a four corner model, or with an additional tax authority node in a five corner model.
- What is PINT?
- PINT (Peppol International Invoice) is the core specification for cross-border e-invoicing over PEPPOL. National variants extend PINT with country specific tax and legal requirements. Examples include PINT AE for the United Arab Emirates, PINT A-NZ for Australia and New Zealand, and PINT SG for Singapore.
- Is PEPPOL free to use?
- Joining PEPPOL as an end user is typically free. Access Point providers charge their own fees for transmission, onboarding, and support. There is no per invoice fee paid to OpenPeppol directly.
- How does PEPPOL differ from clearance and real time reporting?
- PEPPOL is a transport network. Clearance and real time reporting are regulatory models that require tax authority validation of invoice data before or around the moment of issuance. A country can use PEPPOL as its transport layer while also operating a clearance or reporting overlay, for example Singapore and the United Arab Emirates combine PEPPOL transport with their own compliance layers.
