Specified VAT tax invoice format takes effect

Sri Lanka begins phased e-invoicing rollout via RAMIS Web API
The Inland Revenue Department issued Notice SEC/PN/VAT/2026-03, confirming that the National e-Invoicing System, which began with a pilot for a selected group of VAT-registered persons, is being rolled out in phases. Selected garment export, tea export and tea manufacturing entities transmit VAT invoice and schedule data (Schedules 01, 04 and 07) from their ERP systems to RAMIS in real time through a secure Web API, and tea brokers' Colombo Tea Auction records are transmitted from 1 May 2026. Phase 1 covers export-oriented enterprises and Phase 2 all VAT-registered persons, with full Web API integration expected by the end of 2026. This moves Sri Lanka's B2B status from planned to phased.
